Healthy Sweeteners

Honey

Some might say my title is impossible, that there are no healthy sweeteners. If your idea of sweetening involves large quantities of any sweetener, that is true. Healthy Sweeteners can only be good for you if used in moderation. Taking that into account, it is safe to say that there are some sweeteners that are healthier choices or the sweetening stars.

Maple Syrup

The two sweetening stars are honey and maple syrup. Both supply antioxidants, and honey has been proven to lower cholesterol and promote healthy digestion. The catch is: You’d have to eat so much of either sweetener each day to get these benefits that either one would add unwanted calories.

Let’s face it, we’re kidding ourselves if we think we sweeten things to make them healthier. We do it to make things sweeter. What we want to do is avoid using things that are bad for us. Maple syrup and honey are not bad for us. They will not make anything healthier in the small amounts we use, but they will not make anything unhealthy, which refined sugars and artificial sweeteners do, even in small mounts.

Vegan's sweetening choice

This is true if you use 100% pure maple syrup, and unpasteurized honey. After that, it is up to you. If you are a Vegan, your sweetener of choice would be maple syrup. Honey is made from bees. And as we know, vegans do not consume animal products. You get to decide which one tastes best to you in any recipe you try.

Honey Garlic Chicken and Veggies

My family loves the Honey Garlic Chicken and Veggies entree and Champagne Vinaigrette. And, I enjoy preparing foods with honey or maple syrup when I want to make a healthy sweet for my family. Mother’s Nature Crumble is an easy recipe to prepare. It can be enjoyed warm or refrigerated. Another benefit is that you can substitute peaches for the apples.
