To change a popular song a little bit: This is “the most dangerous time of the year.” I’m not writing this to put a downer on anyone. I want to remind myself as well as my readers that our Health and Happiness is ALWAYS up to us, but there are times we are in danger of forgetting that. The holiday season is one of those times. Consider these suggestions to Choose a Happy Healthy Holiday:

  • Carbs, sugar and empty calories lurk around every corner—in our own kitchens, at work, at holiday parties and get-togethers. Now look at that list! Where is the one place we have some control over this? In our own kitchens, of course! Lovely and delicious holiday foods don’t have to be bad for us. I’ve offered some wonderful recipes here to show you what I mean.

  • Also lurking around every corner is stress—unrealistic expectations, financial limitations, lack of time, lack of sleep, lack of exercise, etc. etc. Funny thing. Eating and drinking right are two of the first strategies for achieving some balance so we can have more control over our moods and emotions. There are actually people who have very little stress and a whole lot of joy during the activity and hubbub of the holidays. It’s a matter of choosing.
